earned his B.A. in English from the University of Washington. Upon graduation, he served for four years as a naval officer aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. Shortly afterwards, Michael began his almost four-decade career as a Metro bus driver. Widely published in journals such as Poetry, Poetry Northwest, Georgia Review, and Southern Review, he has published four poetry collections: The Spine (Purdue, 1987), Adam Chooses (Rose Alley, 1998), Crush Depth (Truman State University, 2009), and The Bus Driver's Threnody (Truman State University, 2014). Michael also has poems in Limbs of the Pine, Peaks of the Range; Many Trails to the Summit; and other anthologies. He lives in Tukwila with his wife, writer and teacher Sharon Hashimoto.
