earned his B.A. in English from the University of Washington. Upon graduation, he served for four years as a naval officer aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. Shortly afterwards, Michael began working as a Metro bus driver, a job he still holds. Widely published in journals such as Poetry, Poetry Northwest, Georgia Review, and Southern Review, he has published three poetry collections: The Spine (Purdue, 1987), Adam Chooses (Rose Alley, 1998), and Crush Depth (Truman State University, 2009). Michael also has poems in Limbs of the Pine, Peaks of the Range; Many Trails to the Summit; and other anthologies. He lives in Tukwila with his wife, writer and teacher Sharon Hashimoto.
